Valerie Compton has been a successful competitive athlete for over 35 years. Using her experience in track & field and competitive tennis as well as her knowledge of weight loss and clean eating, she built a highly successful personal training business in Connecticut and NYC. After moving to Albuquerque in the 1990’s Valerie formed several women’s relay teams that competed in and placed in every major running and multi-sport event they entered. Her teams have won or placed in the Duke City Marathon, Mt. Taylor Winter Quadrathlon, Las Cruces Marathon, and local duathlons. Valerie has been educating and motivating others to reach their fitness goals for almost 20 years. Her strong focus, energy, and commitment to excellence is passed on to all she comes in contact with. She holds certifications from Polestar, Power Pilates, Pilates for Golf, AFAA, Heart Zones, and Spinning. She has studied nutrition for weight loss as well as for athletic performance and practices what she preaches. She regularly travels to New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and Scottsdale to study the latest trends in the fitness industry, to keep her clients challenged, motivated and always reaching for more. In 2006 Valerie developed the hugely successful BARREFUSION a one hour workout designed to burn fat while tightening and elongating the muscle to build a lean sculpted look.
In 2009 Valerie was voted “Best of the City – Personal Trainer” by the readers of ABQ The Magazine!
August 2011 Valerie won 1st Place Masters Division in the La Luz Trail Run and 6th female finisher overall with a time of 1:59. Nine miles with an elevation gain of over 3,700 feet. The La Luz Trail Run has been voted one of the 12 hardest races in North America!
Sydney is a spontaneous, fun loving, adventurous person who loves teaching Fitness! Sydney started competitive sports at a young age. She was a NM State Champion in gymnastics and a National qualifier. She was competitive in school sports such as volleyball, basketball, track and golf. After graduating High School she attended The University of New Mexico where she found the rigorous sport of Rugby. Family and friends told her she was crazy yet she continued to play and led a successful career in Rugby, D1 western champions 2007, D1 1st team All-American 2006-2007, and USA U-23 team 2005-2007. Sydney has a huge interest in fitness and nutrition and started personal training in 2006 where she discovered her love for helping people transform their lives. She now teaches YogaRitas @El Pinto and loves teaching all classes offered at BODYLANGUAGE because of the intensity that it brings to the mind and body. She is currently a Lululemon Ambassador as well! Her Bachelors in University Studies with a concentration in Health and Lifestyle Management ties in with the method practiced at BODYLANGUAGE. Sydney likes to create a fun environment in her class with the intention towards preventive health and balance in life. Sydney enjoys volunteering with her Therapy dog Flo, the outdoors, traveling, gardening, nutrition, Pilates, Rugby, triathlons and most importantly she loves life!
Lea Otero is a freelance writer, runner, ballet dancer, joke-teller, and animal lover. She has spent most of her life dedicated to improving her own health and fitness, and has always wanted to help others pave their own way to a healthier, happier lifestyle. Lea first stumbled upon BODYLANGUAGE while in search of a yoga studio, and while the classes offered were not exactly what she was looking for, she stuck with them anyway, because they were much harder, more intense and WAY more fun than any other group fitness classes she had ever taken. When she’s not in the studio (a rare occurrence), you can find Lea watering her thousands of plants, keeping her kitten out of trouble, reading, or hugging her dog, Princess Wuvie.
Tara Arellano is a Certified Personal Trainer, Spin Instructor, TRX & Barre Certified instructor, as well as a Nutritionist & Fitness Coach. She has a degree in Nutrition/Dietetics, graduating Suma-Cum Laude from the University of New Mexico. Tara was a competitive gymnast, cheerleader and dancer for most of her childhood. She has a background in Cardio Kickboxing, Kettlebell training and enjoys all types of fitness from Spinning, BARRE, TRX, & Hot Yoga. She is an avid cyclist and enjoys wine tasting and entertaining. She hopes to motivate women everywhere to move toward their goals with purpose and passion to achieve greatness in whatever they choose. ” I am grateful to be a part of BODYLANGUAGE so I can inspire the minds of the clients with the Amazing Barre technique”.
Monica Coshenet loves spending time playing in a variety of sports such as soccer, volleyball and even adult kickball. She has her Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and feels blessed to have the opportunity to work with a variety of people, improving their lives in personal and individual way. And because she focuses on living a fun and healthy life, BODYLANGUAGE has been the perfect fit for her! Monica is also currently a LuluLemon Ambassador! Monica had been an instructor at the studio for over 3 years before becoming a spin and barre instructor. She loves the high energy, extreme shake and positive outcome each class offers. Monica’s goal in each of her classes is to provide a great workout while putting a smile on the face of each of our amazing clients. Barry Crow is a native New Mexican active in many sports including grappling, kickboxing, and Track & Field. Over the past few years he has developed a passion for trail running leading him to compete in the Warrior Dach and Spartan obstacle races. It wasn’t until he entered a BODYLANGUAGE Challenge that he wanted to help others achieve and expand their fitness goals. Barry is certified in TRX and hopes to bring the passion of fitness to others. He is a graduate from UNM with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Stephanie Dyke has been inspired by movement since her parents enrolled her in dance classes at age three. Since then she has trained on scholarship as a dancer in New York, Boston, San Diego, Philadelphia, and Denver with esteemed instructors and choreographers. She is currently a principal dancer with the New Mexico Ballet Company, best known for their annual production of The Nutcracker at Popejoy Hall. At age 13, Stephanie became fascinated with Pilates as a means of cross-training for ballet. In 2014 she decided to turn this fascination into a career and completed Balanced Body’s Pilates Mat Instructor training program. Stephanie came across the BODYLANGUAGE community soon after returning home from her training. She was amazed by the strength, passion, and dedication of the instructors and clients, and knew immediately she was where she was supposed to be. She is very excited to belong to the BODYLANGUAGE family and share her passion for movement and fitness.
Amanda Swadish is a native Texan who recently moved to New Mexico and is truly embracing the Land of Enchantment. Amanda studied PR at Texas University and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Along with 10 years of sales experience specializing in luxury brands and beverages, Amanda owns her own small businesses. Amanda has spent her years dancing, long-distance running, and was on the water ski team in college. She is constantly traveling and trying to build on her exposure to new forms of physical techniques.She is fueled and fulfilled by setting high goals physically and is career driven. These experiences have shaped her to open her own business in customer service, The Tasting Company which now operates throughout Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado. She also sells her favorite skin care line Rodan and Fields.
Sarah Tonigan fell in love with fitness and competition at a young age. She’s competed in basketball, track, taekwondo and sand volleyball—even meeting her husband at a sand volleyball tournament when she moved to Albuquerque from St. Louis in 2012. She brings energy and a positive attitude to everything she does. Her NRG spin class includes fun throw-back music and high-intensity energy bursts. She’s certified in teaching TRX and loves to make people smile while they are dying on the inside during powerful movements. She came to BODYLANGUAGE as a client, got hooked on the effective workouts and supportive environment, and has since become a vibrant instructor dedicated to helping clients enjoy fitness AND love their bodies. Outside the studio, Sarah is a public relations consultant for a national bank, eagerly waiting for the next time she can get back to her happy place—BODYLANGUAGE!
Anna Dinallo grew up in Albuquerque and comes from a large Hispanic and Italian family – where everyone yells, kisses and talks with their hands. She is passionate about learning and taking adventures (e.g. getting a PhD). When she’s not at the barre, doing yoga, or hitting the trail running, she’s usually spending time volunteering at the Partnership for Community Action, where she serves as a family educator. A counselor by trade, Anna spends a lot of time working for social justice around mental health legislation. She is a firm believer in enjoying life and resting as hard as you work! Her favorite philosopher, Thich Nhat Hanh, has taught her to show up to the present moment – “When you love someone [including your self], the best thing you can offer is your presence. How can you love if you are not there?” Anna loves BODYLANGUAGE because it takes her to the present moment…if you can breathe through a barre class – you can do anything! Exercising is more than building body strength and toning – it is a stress reliever and chance to enjoy life with magnificent people!
