We are proud to be Albuquerque's original Barre Studio!
BODYLANGUAGE first opened its doors in January 2006, founded by Valerie and Woody Compton. At the helm of it all was Valerie's desire for clients to have a safe space to push their limits, take chances and be exceptional. The studio was, and still is, designed to motivate, challenge and inspire every client that walks through the doors. Our group classes are intentionally designed to give you the maximum benefit for your time and effort in a comfortable, encouraging, and intimate setting. Barre, Pilates, TRX, and Yoga classes will sculpt, tone, lift, lengthen, and strengthen your muscles while our NRG+SPINNING classes are an intense cardiovascular session designed to push your endurance and improve your overall fitness. Most importantly, these classes can be adapted and modified to meet the needs of everyone no matter their fitness level or experience.
With over 45 group classes per week, private training sessions, competitive physical challenges, and anaerobic threshold training, there is something for everyone at BODYLANGUAGE!
Please read on to learn a little more about the original owner, Valerie Compton, and how she made her dream for BODYLANGUAGE a reality:
BODYLANGUAGE originally opened as a Spin, Yoga and Pilates studio but quickly morphed into a weight loss clinic adding a 12 week fitness challenge and ultimately BARREFUSION, our signature Barre class. Valerie's lifelong athletic endeavors had led to many injuries, so she used her personal experiences with physical therapy along with her foundation in Pilates to create and offer the first Barre class in Abq; one with major muscle shaking and a big burn! In 2008 BODYLANGUAGE became the original, and at the time, the only Barre Studio in Albuquerque.
Valerie’s philosophy was and still is “Anything is possible and your limits are only in your mind; it's the mind that controls the body. It is not about your education or lack of (she is a high school graduate), your physical appearance, your wealth, your gender, your ethnicity, your up bringing or any other outside force. It is about being disciplined, committed, focused, determined, and never quitting. This philosophy inspired every class she created and taught, and every client she engaged with throughout her career. She accomplished all she set out to do with BODYLANGUAGE and retired in 2016 to pursue competitive pickleball, volunteer work at Hands of Hope, leading a Bible Study, nurturing her marriage, always being there for her son, and continuing to strive for excellence in all her endeavors.
